Jack Epps, Jr. -- Reviewer & Founder

In the early 2000's, Jack Epps, Jr.'s introduction to whiskey started with a bottle of dead man's whiskey.  A close friend had received some whiskey from his friend whose father had recently died.  The friend of a friend didn't drink whiskey so he passed the bottle to Epps' friend, who in turn shared it with Epps.  Hence, dead man's whiskey.  It was love at first sip.  It was an old dusty bottle of Ballantine's Scotch whiskey from the mid-70's.  Around the same time, Epps also happened upon the book, Whisk(e)y by Stefan Gabanyi, which opened him up to the world of whiskey.  He initially pursued expanding his knowledge of scotch whiskey, with Lagavulin 16 year being his favorite, until a fateful trip to Kentucky in 2007 introduced him bourbon.  The move to bourbon was quick and enjoyable.  Over the past 10 years, Epps journeyed to Kentucky several times, haunted the Brown Hotel in Louisville, traveled the bourbon trail, and enjoyed the angel's share in many a rickhouse.

Epps is also known as the co-screenwriter for the motion pictures Top Gun, Dick Tracy, The Secret of My Success, and Anaconda.  Additionally, he is  a professor at the University of Southern California.  Epps likes to do measured tastings for friends to introduce them to the flavors and variety of Kentucky's finest export.

Kerri Epps -- Webmaster

The HMS Bounty Cocktail Bar and Restaurant in Los Angeles, originally founded in 1948 and named for the famed ship from Mutiny on the Bounty, maintains it's nautical charm and gives the diner a brief opportunity to travel back in time to live in a perfectly nostalgic moment. The red leather booths and white linen table cloths easily inspire one to order an Old Fashioned to accompany their 1950's steak dinner. For Kerri, this "love-at-first-sip"  has fueled her  interest  and exploration into bourbon. She enjoys partaking in measured tastings as a member of the Backyard Bourbon Club and is eager to learn about the various histories behind the great bourbons. Her favorite bourbon is  Four Roses Single Barrel and she recommends it to anyone with a sweet-tooth. It's caramel texture and confectionery flavor is  delightful and won't disappoint.
